May the force be with you!

A Long Time Ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there lived a young boy who was having his eighth birthday. He was terribly fond of Star Wars. His mom asked me to make him a cake, and here is the result:

I covered it in black and white marbelized fondant, but the black is really chocolate fondant. Tastes so much better than all that black food coloring by itself.

There has to be a Luke Skywalker, of course. Can't have Star Wars without the main hero.

And Leia. she has to be there, as well as her buns. I mean the ones on her head. And her red lips. Did anyone else ever notice that she always had perfect lipstick, no matter where she was, even in prison?

I guess her lips had to look perfect at all times. She might get a kiss from Han Solo, but then, we all know, she'd just as soon kiss a Wookie!

And then there must be the bad guy. Darth Vader. Looks like he is ready for battle with Luke, they both have their light sabers ready.

R2D2 was made of cake especially for the birthday boy. Have you ever eaten a droid on your birthday? I thought not.

This was such a fun cake to do. At first, it was going to be just a huge R2D2, but I ran out of time to make the base he would need to stand on. This was fun, because there were so many other characters. I tried a new recipe for the cake, but haven't tasted it yet. Hope it came out ok. The weather was hot and humid, and marshmallow fondant doesn't like that at all. I think they were all a bit droopy, but we got there in the end. Still, it was fun.

Barbie again.

This is another Barbie cake that was done for another adorable girl down the street. What a cutie! The cake turned out cute, too! It is chocolate cake that my husband swears tastes like oreos when frosted with white buttercream. I think he's right.
She wanted pink, and the doll came with pink and orange, so I went with that. It was a bit more orange, the pictures seem a bit yellow, but the pink is just the right shade. I loved the tiny rose I made for her hair, now I am wishing I got a closeup shot of that. Should have thought about that before.

Sweet Sixteen!

A while ago I did a cake for the daughter of a friend I used to work with. Her last name has changed, so I didn't know who it was for until she stopped by my house to pay for the cake, but it was so great to see her! She has the cutest family now.
